Already have a GP?

You can continue seeing your usual doctor while asking COH Rehab about rehabilitation support.

Two ways to ask for a GP connection

  • In person in Sydney metro: Tell us your suburb, how far you can travel and any access needs. We can explore an independent GP option within Sydney metro.
  • Telehealth across NSW: If a remote appointment would help, ask about a GP telehealth connection. The doctor decides whether telehealth is appropriate and whether an in-person assessment is needed.

A treating doctor provides medical care. COH Rehab is a rehabilitation provider, not a medical clinic.

Key document

The first Certificate of Fitness

SIRA states that the first Certificate of Fitness must be completed by a registered medical practitioner during a consultation. It records injury details, treatment and fitness for work and daily activities.

Read the official SIRA guidance
Before you have a claim number

Can I see a doctor before lodging a CTP claim?

Yes—you can seek medical assessment before lodging the full claim. Explain that the appointment concerns a motor accident injury and whether you have lodged a claim.

SIRA explains that, after notifying the insurer, you may request approval for some early treatment before lodging a full claim. This is at the insurer's discretion and is limited to the first 28 days after the crash.

Ask for help finding a GP

Who pays for the appointment?

The independent doctors we work with do not charge an upfront consultation fee for CTP or WorkCover appointments, including while your claim is being assessed. If the insurer does not pay, the medical centre may, at its discretion, contact you directly about payment. Insurer approval and payment are not guaranteed.

Common questions

NSW CTP doctor answers.

Plain-English information for people trying to work out what happens after a motor accident.

Can I see a GP after a car accident before I have a CTP claim number?

You can seek medical assessment before the full claim is lodged. Tell the practice that your injuries relate to a motor accident and whether you have lodged a claim. After notifying the CTP insurer, you can ask it about approval for early treatment; funding is not automatic. Do not delay emergency care while waiting for claim paperwork.

Is there an upfront fee to see a CTP GP through COH Rehab?

The independent doctors we work with do not charge an upfront consultation fee for CTP or WorkCover appointments, including while your claim is being assessed. If the insurer does not pay, the medical centre may, at its discretion, contact you directly about payment. Insurer approval and payment are not guaranteed.

Do I have to change GPs to use COH Rehab?

No. You can ask about rehabilitation while continuing with your current treating doctor. With your consent and the required referral and funding approval, COH Rehab can coordinate rehabilitation alongside your existing treating team. A doctor connection is an option if you need one, not a requirement.

My GP does not manage CTP claims. What can I do?

Ask the practice whether another doctor can provide ongoing motor accident care. You can also contact COH Rehab with your suburb and needs to explore an independent GP connection. Ask the new practice about records, certificates and follow-up before booking.

Can COH Rehab help me find a CTP doctor near me?

Yes. Tell us your suburb, whether you prefer an in-person appointment in Sydney metro or telehealth, and whether you already have a treating GP. COH Rehab can explore an independent GP connection, including telehealth for people across NSW. The doctor assesses clinical suitability. The practice confirms availability and whether it can accept you.

Do I need a claim number before contacting COH Rehab?

You can enquire with the information you have. Tell us if a claim has not yet been lodged. The independent practice confirms acceptance and booking arrangements.

What is a NSW CTP doctor?

CTP doctor is a common search phrase, not a separate medical specialty. A registered medical practitioner—often a GP—can assess your motor accident injuries, recommend treatment and complete the first Certificate of Fitness.

Can my usual GP manage a CTP injury?

Often, yes. Ask whether your GP is comfortable managing NSW motor accident injuries, completing the relevant certificate and providing follow-up care.

What should I bring to the appointment?

Bring identification, your Medicare card, accident details, claim and insurer information if available, hospital or treatment records, current medicines and notes about how the injury affects daily life and work.

Can I see a CTP GP by telehealth outside Sydney?

COH Rehab can help people across NSW explore an independent GP telehealth connection. Telehealth is not suitable for every consultation, and the doctor may need to examine you in person. The first NSW CTP Certificate of Fitness must be completed by a registered medical practitioner during a consultation; a telehealth enquiry does not guarantee that a certificate can be issued remotely.

Who can complete the first NSW CTP Certificate of Fitness?

SIRA states that the first Certificate of Fitness must be issued by a treating medical practitioner. Subsequent certificates may also be issued by a treating physiotherapist or psychologist under the applicable SIRA requirements.

Which Sydney areas can COH Rehab help with CTP doctor pathway guidance?

COH Rehab can help clarify the medical-care pathway for people across Greater Sydney, including the Inner West, Canterbury-Bankstown, Parramatta, Western Sydney, Fairfield, Liverpool, South-West Sydney, St George, the Sutherland Shire, North Sydney and the Eastern Suburbs. Doctor availability depends on the independent practice, location and clinical suitability.
